The Rainbow Bridge

Inspired by a Norse legend a poem by Steve and Diane Bodofsky

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

We've said Good Night, but not Goodbye.  These special goats live on in their sons and daughters, brothers and sisters.

Maggidan’s Minis Ursula
Sire:  PGCH Lynbil Pygmy's Ike
Dam:  PGCH Maggidan’s Minis Natalia
DOB:  7/24/04

Ursula was our last remaining daughter of our PGCH Maggidan's Minis Natalia.  Truthfully, Nat made better bucks than she did does.  However, Ursula proved some things skip a generation and produced wonderful girls, including Peppermint Patty.

Maggidan's Minis Passion Flower +

Sire:   PGCH Lynbil Pygmy's Ike
Dam:  Promisedland Passion For Purple
DOB:  5/26/02

PF was personality plus, and, if she had a slightly wider front end (to better match her width in the rear) and slightly straighter front legs you would probably see a PGCH in front of her name.  But, we happily settled for the "+" following her name (In the NPGA that means she has produced at least 10 registered kids).

Maggidan's Minis Moonpie

Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion, 3 x Senior Champion, Reserve Senior Champion, 3 x Junior Champion
Sire:  PGCH Lynbil Pygmy's Ike
Dam:  Timberlake Gingerale
DOB:  11/25/02

Moonpie was a lovely example of the older type of pygmy doe.  She was bigger, a bit taller, longer more "dairyish" than what may be popular today.  And when in condition she kicked butt in the showring.   Just look at that extension of her prosternum and the correct set to her legs both front and rear.  Standing there she is lovely but on the move she is a dream, very fluid and elegant, very feminine but powerful.  But her best feature is her ability to carry kids and deliver them with ease, she was a GREAT mom, cleaning and feeding her kids very promptly.

Maggidan's Minis Fleetwood

Senior and Grand Champion, Reserve Senior and Reserve Grand Champion, 3 x Junior Champion
Sire:  PGCH Harper Valley Dakota
Dam:  Lynbil Pygmy's Classy Lady II
DOB:  5/1/02

Fleetwood left us at the end of May 2014.  His contribution to our herd has been wonderful and wide spread.

PGCH Simple Necessities Eason

Eason has 3 legs toward his MCH title
Sire:  PGCH Daworth's Dante
Dam:  Kabills Farm Cheyenne
DOB:  1/14/05

This fine boy joined us in November 2009 when Jason Overman reduced his herd.  He crossed very nicely on our does, making kids with exceptional structure especially in the topline and rear legs.   Eason crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge in mid-May 2014.

PGCH Heavenly Blessings Pizzazz

4 x Senior and Grand Champion, 2 x Reserve Senior and Reserve Grand Champion
Sire:  Heavenly Blessings Starry Night
Dam:  Heavenly Blessings Summer's Eve +
DOB:  2/27/06

Pizzazz passed over to the Rainbow Bridge very suddenly on December 18, 2013 from an especially bad case of goat polio.  We are heartbroken.  He was a superior sire, passing his incredible good looks and correct structure.  We can't believe he is gone.

Maggidan’s Minis Sashay

Sire:  Maggidan’s Minis Fleetwood
Dam:  Maggidan’s Minis Pansy
DOB:  5/12/09

Sashay passed suddenly in September 2013.  She was carrying triplets.  We will miss this friendly doe.  Really wish I had a picture that did her justice.

PGCH Maggidan's Minis Lil Queen

4 x Grand Champion, 3 x Reserve Grand Champion
Sire:  PGCH Lynbil Pygmy's Ike
Dam:  Maggidan's Minis Golden Girl
DOB:  1/29/04

Queenie is our second PGCH doe and a bit different from Natalia, our first.  Queenie was a powerful doe, very deep bodied and muscular.  We thought she was a buckling for her first 10 weeks of life!  I swear I looked carefully when "he" was born and even the day after.  When "he" didn't develop into a "bucky" buck we decided he would be a cute pet wether and didn't pay much more attention, except to note that we thought we might be seeing an extra doeling amongst that year's kid crop.  When the day for castrations came "he" was the last one we scooped up and flipped over and did we get a surprise!  Somehow "he" had become a very nice looking doeling, hence the name (right then and there) of Lil Queen.  She passed suddenly in July of 2013.

Maggidan's Minis Last Little Detail

Reserve Grand Champion, 2 x Reserve Senior Champion, Junior Champion, Reserve Junior Champion
Sire:  Maggidan's Minis Bricklin
Dam:   Whirlwind Farms Exceptional Detail
DOB:  4/8/04

LLD was most certainly her daddy's daughter. This is exactly what we had in mind when we bred Bricklin to Exceptional Detail.  Exceptional Detail had exceptional structure but lacked type, Bricklin was all about type while he had decent structure.  The two of them hit it out of the ballpark with LLD.  She passed over the Bridge in March 2013.

PGCH Maggidan's Minis Natalia

Sire: Lily Valley Pygmies Rockne
Dam: Stolle's Twin Oaks Felicity
DOB: 4/5/98

Natalia passed peacefully on March 15, 2012.

Maggidan's Minis Tzar

2 x Grand Champion
2 x Reserve Grand Champion

Sire:  PGCH Whirlwind Farms No Boundaries
Dam:  PGCH Maggidan's Minis Natalia
DOB:  5/11/01

Tzar was certainly a stellar buck and left a profound mark on our herd.  He was one of the first goats produced on our farm by NATL PGCH WWF No Boundaries, the last son of the legendary NATL PGCH WWF Merlin.  He passed on February 22, 2012.

Maggidan's Minis Whatta Doll

2 x Reserve Junior Champion (at 5 months old), Junior Champion, Winner of the North Carolina Pygmy Goat Club Futurity Doe Classes at the November 2002 and May 2003 Shows, Senior and Grand Champion at the 2004 NC State Fair
Sire:  PGCH Lynbil Pygmy's Ike
Dam:  Promisedland Whatta Charm
DOB:  2/21/02

Doll started her career as one of our top show does when she matured very fast as a youngster, taking her first big ribbon at barely 5 months old.  Of course we were very eager to breed her and she hasn't disappointed us.  Her kids are outstanding.  She passed over on May 29, 2011.

Maggidan's Minis White Diamond

2 x Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion, Reserve Senior Champion
Sire:  Lily Valley Pygmies Rockne
Dam:  Lynbil Pygmy's Classy Lady II +
Date of Birth:  5/12/00

Diamond was one of the first of my milking pygmies.  She was a flighty, wild gal when she was first introduced to the milking stanchion, but soon we were working as a team.  Later that first season she made a return to the showring with a calmer, trusting easy to handle attitude and quickly won 2 legs.  Diamond crossed the Rainbow Bridge on July 3, 2011.

Lynbil Pygmy's Classy Lady II +

Junior and Reserve Grand Champion at the 2000 Florida State Fair
Sire: PGCH Lynbil Pygmy's Ike
Dam: Lynbil Pygmy's Classy Lady
Date of Birth: 6/23/98

When we first brought Classy home as a 5 month old kid we hoped she would not be too intimidated by all of the strangers she was joining.  But Classy knew she was destined to be leader one day and walked into the doe barn butting heads and taking names.   After Hebe retired from the throne Classy Lady became the Herd Queen she was meant to be.   When we look out at our herd we can easily see her influence in our best caramel does.  She nearly always gave us at least one caramel each time she has kidded.  Classy left us on March 15, 2011.

Maggidan's Minis Zephyr

2 x Grand Champion, 2 x Reserve Grand Champion, 2 x Junior Champion, 2 x Senior Champion, 3 x Reserve Senior Champion
Sire:  PGCH Lynbil Pygmy's Ike
Dam: Maggidan's Minis Katydid
DOB:  1/26/04

Zephyr was a favorite on the show circuit.  She was a flashy doe with lots of "look at me" attitude.  She had an easygoing personality if you don't sneak up on her (I suspect she needs glasses or contacts, LOL).  Her structure is quite correct and she is not at all an extreme doe, being very smoothly blended, balanced and proportional.    She crossed the Rainbow Bridge in January 2012.

PGCH Maggidan's Minis Penelope

Sire: Maggidan's Minis Rulon
Dam:  Maggidan's Minis Katydid
DOB:  2/7/06

Penelope has been an eye catcher since she was born and is from our favorite doe line.  She is a powerful but feminine doe with lots of show ring presence and is just getting better and better.  Just look at that topline and her balance and proportion.  She has nice strength of bone, straight well set legs both front and rear and a sweet pygmy type head.  Her first kidding went very easily and she raised the kids (triplets!) by herself.  She finished her PGCH in about 2 months.  Sadly we lost Penelope in October of 2011.

PromisedLand Passion For Purple

Pictured with her 3 week old doeling, Passion Flower, sired by Ike
Sire: NAT'L PGCH Whirlwind Farms No Boundaries
Dam: PGCH Laurel Mtn. Cover Girl
Date of Birth: 4/15/99

Passion for Purple went to the Rainbow Bridge in the late fall of 2010.  She was the last of our goats with the PromisedLand herdname.

Maggidan's Minis Charm

Reserve Junior Champion
Sire:  Maggidan's Minis Tzar
Dam:  Maggidan's Minis Whatta Doll
DOB:  5/21/05

Charm went to the Rainbow bridge after a short fight with cancer in the late summer of 2010.  She had recently been retired to a friend's farm to lead and care for their small herd of wethers and enjoyed her last days being a herd queen.

RSA Hebe

Dam of PGCH Maggidan's Minis Mr. Goodbar and Maggidan's Minis Bricklin
Sire: NAT'L PGCH Precious Pygmies Ike
Dam: RSA Maggie
Date of Birth: 2/11/95

With Hebe's passing on January 13, 2010 it was the end of an era on our farm.  She was a founding doe, our first herd queen. She missed her 15th birthday by just one month.  Her legacy goes on in our herd through her son PGCH Mr. Goodbar, and her grand-daughters, Katydid, Phoebe, Margo and Last Little Detail and all of their progeny.  She contributed her unusual brown caramel color, her beautiful pygmy-type head, and correct structure.  And there is no doubt she contributed to Goodbar's magnificent beard and coat, look at hers!  She would have earned her "+"  if all of her wether kids had been registered.

Maggidan's Minis Phoebe

Sire: PGCH Lynbil Pygmy's Ike
Dam:  Maggidan's Minis Firefly
DOB:  1/27/04

Phoebe slipped away to the Bridge on New Years Eve 2009-2010.  She was a beautiful nearly show quality doe, except she lacked the "diva" quality to take those top ribbons.  She preferred to stay home and make babies.

Sar-Jim Pygmy's White Rose

Junior and Grand Champion at the 2002 Florida State Fair, Senior and Reserve Grand Champion (2006)
Sire:  Homelea Mr. Goodbar
Dam:  Sar-Jim Pygmy’s Lil Phoenix
DOB:  3/5/00

Rose waltzed to the Rainbow Bridge on November 13, 2009 after a long battle with cancer.  She introduced the "chocolate" color into our herd.  She leaves behind 2 outstanding daughters American Beauty and Sarann.  If we had registered all of Rose's kids she would have easily earned her "+".  She was an awesome show doe right into her old age, taking her last championship ribbon at age 7.

PGCH Maggidan's Minis Mr. Goodbar

Sire:2 x GCH Bizzy Acres Cimarron
Dam: RSA Hebe
Date of Birth: 6/5/1998

Goodbar lived his last years in our geriatric unit with his dam Hebe.  He enjoyed hobbling out into the sunshine and  blubbering at the pretty young girls who wander the yard.  He cavorted to the Rainbow Bridge on August 11, 2009 after turning 11 years old.

Maggidan’s Minis Abby

2 x Reserve Junior Champion (her second time out!)
Sire:  KaBills Bad Bob
Dam:  Maggidan’s Minis Passion Flower
DOB:  5/9/06

A promising life was cut short when she died during surgery to repair an injury.  Abby joined the herd at the Bridge in the summer of 2008.

NATL PGCH Whirlwind Farms No Boundaries

1998 NPGA National Champion Buck
Sire:  NAT'L PGCH Whirlwind Farms Merlin
Dam:  Whirlwind Farms Sophisticated Lady
Date of Birth:  4/10/96

NB passed peacefully to the Rainbow Bridge on December 14, 2006.

PGCH Lynbil Pygmy's Ike

26 Permanent Grand Champions in his 5 Generation Pedigree!
Sire:  NAT'L PGCH Precious Pygmies Ike
Dam:  PGCH Creekside Farm Becca Sue
Date of Birth:  5/2/96

Ike went to the Rainbow Bridge on March 22, 2005.  His passing was peaceful.  He lives on in his many kids.

Lily Valley Pygmies Rockne

2 x Grand Champion
Sire: Smokey Mountains Winchester
Dam: M & M Pygmies Nyce
Date of Birth: February 1, 1993

Rockne retired from showing due to a shoulder injury.  We euthanized Rockne in the spring of 2001 due to increasing discomfort from arthritis and his bad shoulder.  He had an incredible impact on the quality of our herd, one daughter is a PGCH another has 2 GCH wins.  Their offspring have consistently done well in the showring.  He is sorely missed.

Maggidan's Minis Bricklin

2 x Reserve Junior Champion
Sire: 2 x GCH Lily Valley Pygmies Rockne
Dam: RSA Hebe
Date of Birth: 2/21/99

Bricklin struts at  the Bridge since 11/23/06, he was 7 years old when he passed.  Bricklin was wethered in 2005 and lived his last year or so with all the girls.  Here he is hanging out with Sandman our marker buck.  Sandman is 10 years old, when he was about 18 months old we had him vasectomized and made him our marker buck.

Maggidan's Minis Sandman (the white caramel buck pictured above) joined his buddy Bricklin at the Rainbow Bridge on January 31, 2008.  He was born just a few days after Hurricane Fran blew through in September 1996, changing the look of Maggidan's Minis' pastures forever.  His sire was Lynbil Pygmy's Crown Royal and his dam was Laurel Mtn. Topaz.  Sandman taught us a lot about how a buck interacts with his herd of does.  In his mind ALL of the kids were his and he was a very proud herdbuck.

PGCH Harper Valley Dakota

Sire: Bizzy Acres Noah
Dam: Lucky Charms Mighty Sassy
Date of Birth: 3/12/95

Dakota crossed over quietly in the night December 5, 2007.  A rambunctious and fractious buck in his early years, he mellowed to being a fine old gentleman during his many years on our farm.

Lynbil Pygmy's Crown Royal

Reserve Grand Champion, 2 x Junior Champion
Sire:  NAT'L PGCH Precious Pygmies Ike
Dam:  Lynbil Pygmy's Lady Di
DOB:  4/23/95

We euthanized Royal in 2001 due to arthritis.  He was our first champion buck and a real gentleman.  We are very proud to have owned him.  We only have one daughter, Pavo, but we have a grand-daughter Moonpie.

Maggidan's Minis Candy Man

Senior and Grand Champion
Sire:  NAT'L PGCH Whirlwind Farms No Boundaries
Dam:  Maggidan's Minis Candy Kisses
DOB: 3/9/03

We lost Candy Man from urinary calculi, our first case in 16 years.  We were so proud of him when he won his GCH at the 2005 National Convention.

Redbud Eight Buffy

Grand-dam of GCH Maggidan's Minis Candy Man
Sire:  Redbud Eight Dusty
Dam:  Raby's Hillside Acres Sissy
DOB:  10/30/90

Buffy quietly passed away several days after her 16th birthday.

Bailey was one of our first Dakota daughters and gave us our second set of quadruplets.

Maggidan's Minis Glory Bound

Sire:  NAT'L PGCH Whrilwind Farms No Boundaries
Dam:  Laurel Mt. Sapphire

Glory was one of our first No Boundaries does.  She was a bottle baby having been orphaned at birth so she was exceptionally sweet and spoiled.  She gave us our first Bad Bob baby, Sophie, and lives on through her beautiful daughter.

Maggidan's Minis Raindance

Sire:  PGCH Harper Valley Dakota
Dam:  Lynbil Pygmy's Classy Lady II
DOB:  5/1/02

Raindance died suddenly (of a massive abdominal tumor) in March 2007.  She leaves us with Moondance her beautiful daughter.

Senior and Grand Champion at the 2003 Florida State Fair
Sire: PGCH Whirlwind Farms Priceless Edition
Dam: R&R Acres Poker Annie
Date of Birth: 4/6/98

Ripple passed over the Bridge during her last kidding Spring of 2008.  Her daughter Rosa followed her mom a few months later.  They leave Rosa's daughter, Margo to carry on.  We will miss Ripple and Rosa two sweet and wonderful does.

Maggidan's Minis Katydid

Sire:  NAT'L PGCH Whirlwind Farms No Boundaries
Dam: Maggidan's Minis Firefly
DOB:  3/16/02

Katydid passed over the Bridge shortly before her due date in early summer of 2008.  She leaves a remarkable legacy in her daughters, Zephyr, Pansy and Penelope.
